The Real Reason
Why You’re Burned Out
And How To Get Out Of That
Dark Place For Good
And Finally Gain Back Control
Over Your Own Life

*This is going to be most important letter you’ll ever read this year

if you want to elevate your business and life
to new heights you never thought possible
WITHOUT
sacrificing your sanity or
working looooooong hours. 😉*

Burnout is one of the major reasons why people quit.

Quit not just in business but also in life.

Trigger Warning: For some people, they do the literal version of it. 😭😭

For most people, they just stop living the lives God wants them to live and just goes with the flow.

They’re alive physically but they’re dead inside.

Dreamless.

Passionless.

Purposeless.

And they usually justify their usually unconscious choice to stop living and dreaming with this lie:

“I need to stop
being greedy.

I need to be
CONTENT
with what I have
right now.”

Nothing wrong with that.

That’s actually how our attitude should be when it comes to wanting… MORE.

The problem is that…

We often use that as an
excuse for our
COMPLACENCY.

Being content and being complacent are two different things.

You can be content now while wanting to improve your God-given gifts and do more for His Glory.

You can be content while wanting to upgrade the quality of your life and the lives of those around you, especially your family.

You can be content while striving to be physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy.

You can be content while pursuing greater things that would impact a lot of people’s lives.

Now, like I said earlier, the reason why most people, especially those with BIG DREAMS, become complacent is because…

They are burned out.

Now, before I continue with my letter to you…

Let’s first talk about the symptoms and telltale signs of burnout.

Kasi baka hindi naman pala burnout ‘yung na-eexperience mo ngayon. 🙈

Game?

Symptom #1
Emotional Exhaustion (EE)

Emotional Exhaustion is characterized by feelings of being emotionally drained and depleted of emotional resources.

People who are emotionally exhausted have this sense of dread about what lies ahead and feel constantly tired, even after rest.

Here are some telltale signs:

  • You wake up in the morning and you feel exhausted and drained despite sleeping for 8 hours (or even more).

Ayaw mo bumangon but you need to go to work. “First task” of the day mo is to get out of your bed and sobrang struggle na agad.

  • You stare blankly at your computer screen, unable to muster the energy to start your “real tasks”.

  • Even small decisions feel overwhelming for you to the point na minsan, gusto mo na lang mag-breakdown especially when you can’t decide anong uunahin.

  • By the end of the day, you’re now completely drained. You have no energy left for socializing or engaging in hobbies.

Most nights, you go straight to bed to rest but your brain doesn’t let you. You still feel restless and anxious about the next day, week, month, year.

TL;DR:

In simpler terms, feeling mo lagi kang pagod and you don’t even know why. Wala ka ding gana sa mga bagay-bagay like work or even those things you used to enjoy doing like sports, video games, etc.

You’re always anxious and you keep on thinking about things that are unlikely to happen, things you haven’t achieved yet, things that shouldn’t matter anymore, and more.

Symptom #2
Depersonalization (DP)

Sobrang lawak and deep ng topic na ‘to and I can’t really explain everything about this psychological condition.

But still, let me try.

In general, depersonalization is the extreme opposite of the “Main Character Syndrome". (It’s not really a syndrome. Don’t worry. 😆)

It’s like you're watching your life unfold pero third character ka. Like you're outside of your life/environment.

As a result, you may feel detached from others or yourself and your identity which can lead to demotivation and feeling of isolation.

A person may also feel that he/she is not in control of his/her words or actions.

Another sign would be when a person doesn’t recognize himself/herself in front of the mirror. It happens to a normal person but they should be able to “wake up” after a few seconds. Otherwise, it can be a sign of a clinical condition.

And… madami pa.

Told you.

Complicated stuff.

Now, let’s look at it from an organizational perspective.

Depersonalization refers to a state where individuals become detached from their work and their colleagues leading to a cynical and indifferent attitude towards them.

They see their clients or coworkers as objects rather than human beings, leading to a loss of empathy and emotional connection.

And as meetings? They don’t appreciate their co-worker’s great ideas. When pointing out a mistake or suggesting a better idea, wala nang kalambing-lambing ‘yung approach nila.

I think this meme perfectly summarizes it:

Symptom #3
Reduced Personal Accomplishment (PA)

Reduced personal accomplishment is the feeling of inefficacy and a decline in one's sense of competence and achievement at work.

Individuals may feel unproductive, dissatisfied with their accomplishments, and doubt their ability to perform effectively. This can lead to a decrease in motivation and a sense of failure.

Translate ko sa Tagalog para mas masakit. 🥲

TRIGGER WARNING 👀

This is when you tell yourself na:

“Ang bobo ko naman.”

“Wala akong silbi.”

“Ang bagal ko naman mag-work. Dapat kanina pa ako tapos eh.”

“Dapat na-achieve ko na ‘to by this age eh. Ang hina ko naman.”

“Sobrang mas matalino ba talaga sila kesa sa’kin?”

“Dapat ginalingan ko pa.”

“Am I really making a difference?”

“I’m such a failure.”

…among many other things. 😭

Also, you feel like you’re losing (or you’ve already lost) control over your work or even your own life.

And because of these negative self-talks and self-perception, you lose motivation and enthusiasm about the things you were once passionate about leading to a downward spiral.

Idealistic and passionate people
are prone to Symptom #3.

Kamusta ka?

How many of these symptoms do you see in yourself? Be honest with yourself. Ikaw lang naman nakakaalam.

Anyway…

Why and how do you become burned out in the first place?

Let’s look at these common but less talked about misconceptions and myths around burnout:

Myth #1
“I’m not burned out.
Tamad lang talaga ako.”

Ang harsh mo sa sarili mo. 😅

Kidding aside…

I’m not trying to justify laziness but there are millions of things happening inside a “lazy person’s” brain. It could be that:

    • There are unhealed traumas.

  • The person doesn’t know where he needs or wants to go.

  • Now…

Most times, despite the unhealed traumas, if you know where you need or want to go, you’ll have the willpower to do whatever it takes to get there.

Doesn’t matter kung “nakakatamad” ‘yung task or what.

    You’ll do it anyway.

    Myth #2
    Burnout = Pagod

Being pagod or stressed doesn’t equate to being burned out.

Kapag pagod or stressed ka, need mo lang ng pahinga. You’ll most probably be good to go again after spending a slow week in Boracay.

Pero kapag burned out ka, it’s like life’s drained out of you and you can’t really explain the feeling.

It’s like you want to keep on moving but you can’t. You’ll just realize one day that you’ve been in a dark place for many months already without even noticing it.

    So, no.

Don’t try to treat your burnout with vacations.

Mauubos lang pera mo and it won’t really do significant changes in your mood and outlook in life.

Another difference between pagod and burnout:

Pagod ka lang ngayon pero alam mo pa din saan ka pupunta after mo magpahinga.

Burned out ka kasi hindi mo alam saan ka pupunta in the first place. Work ka lang ng work but you don’t have a destination.

This is the reason why you still feel tired even after taking a long vacation.

    Myth #3
    “I’m burned out because
    I don’t like my work.”

Well, not liking what you do for a living can contribute to temporary unhappiness.

    (Keyword: Temporary)

But it’s not the main cause of your burnout.

If burnout is directly proportional to how much you hate your job 🙈, then 95% of the world’s population should be burned out today.

(I just made up the 95% figure. I don’t have data but you get my point that most people don’t like their jobs – and bosses. HAHA!)

People can hate their jobs but still be happy and joyful.

    How is that possible?

Because they know that what they’re doing will get them closer to where they want/need to be.

    For example:

    Parents of newborn babies.

I bet that most of them hate taking care of their children in the middle of the night.

‘Yung tipong kakapikit mo lang tapos iiyak na naman si baby tapos alternate kayong mag-asawa mag-alaga.

But why do they still do it?

Because it’s clear to them what they want to happen and what they don’t want to happen.

Are they unhappy and depressed and burned out because they have to do all those tasks?

Nope. (At least those who really love their children.)

    Yes, nakakapagod. Pero hindi nakaka-burnout.

    Myth #4
“I’m a multipotentialite. I want to do a lot of things kaso hindi ko alam uunahin.”

As someone who's founded multiple companies in different niches, I can somehow relate. 😆🤣😅

But what I realized was that the reason bakit hindi ko alam uunahin ko noon was that I just didn’t know where I wanted to be physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, and spiritually.

Once I got the clarity, the feeling of being burned out stopped.

(I’m not saying that you should stop honing your different interests. That’s a totally different matter.)

    Anyway…

There are probably hundreds of myths out there regarding this topic but let me stop here.

Now, what did you notice about those myths?

    May something common ba?

    Sirit na?

    It’s knowing your destination.
    (A.K.A. Vision)

The real reason why you’re burned out is because you don’t know where you need or want to go.

Feeling mo tamad ka kahit may track record ka naman of getting things done kasi nawawalan ka na ng gana kasi hindi mo alam kung worth it pa ba ‘yung ginagawa mo or hindi na.

You don’t know if it’s worth it because in the first place, you don’t have an end goal or destination.

Sobrang pagod na pagod ka na kasi hindi mo alam kung may pupuntahan ba talaga ‘yung pagpapagod mo.

Since you don’t know where you’re going, hindi mo din tuloy malaman kung lumalapit ka ba sa goal mo or lumalayo na pala.

Yes, you don’t like your work. However, you’ve likely done things you didn’t enjoy but felt happy knowing they brought you closer to your goals.

Will you let how you feel about your job dictate the course of your whole life?

You want to do many things because you want to experience different outcomes. You seek these different outcomes because you're unsure which one you truly desire. Essentially, you're just playing it safe.

“In case I don’t want this outcome, at least I have already prepared a backup.”

    To put it simply…

    Our greatest enemy today is:
    PURPOSELESSNESS.

    It’s not laziness.

    It’s not stress.

It’s not our feelings towards our jobs.

    It’s not having multiple interests.

We just don’t have a clear vision of where we want to be physically, mentally emotionally, socially, and spiritually.

    The Only Thing That
    We Can Guarantee

If you joined our virtual summit last time, you’re probably inspired by the stories of my beloved NBU Alumni who are now earning tens of millions of pesos per month.

    However…

As much as I’d like to promise you that you’d be able to achieve that too after 1 year of ‘graduating’ from New Bold University…

    …I can’t.

The next best thing I can promise you though is this:

When you attend The Rise Of Exponential Purpose-Driven Entrepreneur, you’ll meet a lot of high-level, positive, and grateful people and mahahawa ka sa kanila.

I’m not promising that all of the 399 attendees (ikaw kasi ‘yung pang 400 😁) will be people who naturally radiate positive energy though.

Kasi paano kung, by nature, negative ka talaga tapos pumunta ka, eh ‘di na-break ko na agad ‘yung promise ko. 😅😆

    Kidding aside…

The people I expect to attend will be at different levels in life and business.

Merong mga nas Level 3 pa lang ‘yung mindset nila, merong nasa Level 7 na.

But I can guarantee you ONE THING.

And that is you will UPGRADE because of your NBU classmates who have better mindset than you do instead of you causing them to downgrade.

    Read that again.

Ikaw ‘yung mahahawa sa perspectives and mindset ng mga mas magaling sa’yo instead na sila ‘yung mahawaan mo.

It’s just impossible na mag-downgrade ka ulit kung totoo ‘yung transformation na pinagdaanan mo in your journey.

In the same way, mahahawaan mo din ‘yung ibang hindi mas magaling sa’yo.

    Win-win.

I’ve seen this happen many times in my mentees.

    Here are some of my
    most successful mentees:

    Roderick Dilag
    TipidSulit Laundromat
    NBU 2020

Roderick learned from one of the NBU 2020 mentors, Butz Bartolome (a.k.a the Franchise Guru), and had a eureka moment.

He now has hundreds of franchisees for TipidSulit.

    Here’s an article from ABS-CBN:

    Kim and Bimbo Diongzon
    Reluxe Essentials
    NBU 2019

They began learning the ropes of e-commerce in 2019, and by 2020, during the height of the pandemic, they founded Reluxe Essentials.

Today, Reluxe has hundreds of resellers nationwide.

    Lui Baarde
    Passionate Creators
    NBU 2020

Joined NBU in 2020, was inspired to create her own group of passionate makers, and started Passionate Creators (PC).

To date, she has already helped hundreds of students build their personal brands.

    Candy Edmundo
    Candydo
    NBU 2022

    She started by reselling pastillas.

After attending NBU in 2022, her business grew exponentially as she shared her journey on TikTok.

Two years later, she’s now selling thousands of pastillas a week, making eight (8) figures per month.

    Katherine Trixie Tagorda
    Disciple Brew
    NBU 2020

She started by selling drip coffee on Lazada, dreaming of one day owning her own café.

Last year, she made that dream a reality by opening her first branch in Eton Centris.

    And madami pa sila.

Now, if you want to upgrade your mindset and 10X your life and business, kita kits tayo sa NBU this August 29~31.
